Burns Industries owns and operates the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. The plant has a monopoly on the city of Springfield’s energy supply. The core of the plant contains two Fissionator 1952 Slow-Fission Reactors, operating in spite of more than 300 safety violations with an estimated repair bill in excess of $50 million. Some of the more disturbing violations are emergency exits that are simply painted on the wall, cracks in the cooling towers held together by duct tape, massive amounts of badly stored toxic waste overseen by unqualified personnel. The plant has come close to a meltdown several times and has blown up at least once. The evil and unscrupulous Montgomery Burns owns 100% of Burns Industries.
